An official with the South African ruling party is in Juba to assess challenges that are likely to arise following the independence of South Sudan.

ANC Collins Ohm Chabane, the Minister in the Presidency, told journalists that his visit was part of a bilateral agreement between South Africa and the people of Sudan to monitor the progress of the CPA implementation.

He said the meeting with the SPLM will assess the progress made since the referendum and look at the obstacles likely to arise after July 9.

Mr. Chabane appealed for reconciliation among the Sudanese to overcome the obstacles that are standing against the remaining CPA articles.

He urged the North and South to jointly work together in resolving the Darfur issues.

Mr. Chabane said peace and stability is the responsibility of the whole Sudan.
