The chairperson of Civil Society Network in Eastern Equatoria State is asking the people to refrain from instigating conflict among communities in the state.
Charles Onen Lokwaruk says conflict will block service delivery and supply of humanitarian assistance to the needy in the affected area.
“My massage to the people of Eastern Equatoria is that let us desist from causing insecurity where ever we are, along the roads, in our communities it will not take us somewhere, instead it is going to deny us a lot of things, in terms of service delivery, humanitarian assistance, and accessing the area with good things like roads, putting network in an area people fear, please our elders, community leaders, youth leaders, women leaders let us engage to talk to our people, especially youth to leave causing insecurity along our roads”, he notes.
The chairperson acknowledges the government’s commitment and promises that they will support the government as a civil society.
He urges the stakeholders to have a diverse method in apprehending criminals from various corners and those who are attacking and killing people along the roads.
“Our government want to continue supporting them and also security is paramount, we shall support you but you are the key player to lead the road, we want you to replicate the tactics you use to apprehend criminals along Torit-Kapoeta highway, use the same strategy to apprehend other criminals along other roads, to our members of parliament we shall be having engagement with you to present you the expectation of the government”, Onen says.
The official calls for collaboration between the members of the civil societies and the humanitarian partners within the state to avoid fuelling conflict among communities.
“To civil society, other NGOs, let us collaborate with the government, report to government relevant offices within the county, and the Payams, as you do your permission, don’t go in to the communities, we are civil society we will condone his act because you are raising the expectation of the people and causing conflict within the community because of your program which are not aligned within the program of the government to bring peace and build peace among them”, he elaborates.
