Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday received the deputy speaker and also receives new members of parliament.

The eight who took their oath before Justice Obaj Denyong Anyong were drawn in from Other Political Parties and two old members from some parties who were appointed but were sworn in before, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The deputy state clerk, Augustino Victor Lokong read the names of the appointees in as follows.

Meanwhile the newly sworn in deputy speaker, Betty Hope Awor is hoping to bring changes but it will be based on the social aspect.

“The changes that I will bring will depend first of all on the unity, the cooperation accorded. With all that everything will move on smoothly with that respect”.

While OPP chairperson, Joseph Opio Wilson calls for the spirit of teamwork and togetherness to the members of the August house in serving the people of Eastern Equatoria State.

“What we are going to this August house from OPP, first we are going together, we need a team work with other parties, we need collaboration, we need to build ideas, and we need to reach a concession into this agreement. Our priority as OPP is to implement the agreement in spirit and letter”

Opio explains why the OPP members have taken time to be appointed as parliamentarians in the state assembly.

He states that the delay in the inclusion of the OPP members into the State parliament has not interfered with the routine function of the parliament and they are willing to support the implementation of the peace agreement.

“It was the leadership of OPP to sit down and reach concessions, now that they have sat and reached concessions instead of hurrying I think this is the right time for us now we have come in to implement the peace agreement. However even if we were out of the assembly, the assembly was doing its functions because we have that spirit of whatever they are doing at other parties they were doing for the best interest of South Sudan. By being late to join the august house doesn’t mean that there was anything that was hindering. We allowed that assembly to operate both national and the state level during our absence but now since that we came in we will take it from there where they have reached”, he elaborates.

President Salva Kiir appointed the newly sworn in members on March, 28th 2022.
