Eastern Equatoria State women have joined the world in commemoration of the International Women Day under the global theme: “Breaking the Bias”.
While in South Sudan, the day marks the national theme: “Gender equality for future sustainability: Promote and celebrate women and girls’ achievements and resilience!”, Radio Emmanuel reported.
Speaking during the event, Mary Alfonse Lodira, Deputy Governor of Eastern Equatoria State says the day was set aside internationally to rejoice and appreciate the efforts in dealing with various man-made adverse situations exposed to women in the society.
“My fellow women, today is our day, it is set aside globally to celebrate and cherish robustness in managing various complex and adverse situations that man-made combination society exposed to us in addition to reproductive responsibility, raising family, fulfilling household cause, attending to the unpaid jobs and community service including our office duties”, she said.
The deputy governor says women also need to be recognized for their tireless effort they are giving in the family and particularly in communities they live in.
“When we talk about unpaid jobs, somebody talked about cleaning the garden, cleaning the house, cooking, all these things, bathing the children, making water ready for the man to take bath, these are all unpaid jobs. Really, is a woman just born to do all these things while the jobs today are actually being paid? If the cleaning work was not paid, why we are paid in the organization that we work when we are cleaning, which means the women need to be paid because they are cooking”, she complains.
The deputy governor discloses government’s plans to ensure empowering females with various skills to restore dignity and respect for women in communities.
“Our government is working with other development partners for the accomplishment of the diverse opportunities and keeps focus on empowering women and girls on various skills with emphasis on restoring dignity and respect for women in our community. And some of the opportunities include, but are not limited to financial, inclusion, social security, quality health, affordable housing, education, entrepreneurship, and property ownership. We also need to move to know capable women in top political decision”, she says.
