The National and Rehabilitation Commission representative John Odongi promised to give three hundreds sacks of rice to returnees and farmers in Agoro Payam of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria.
According to Radio Emmanuel, 100 sacks of rice will be given to the returnees and 200 others to farmers with the aim of empowering them to have energy to cultivate.
Odongi told the community in Agoro that the government has taken the lead together with the UNHCR to take care of the returnees.
He says when farmers are supported, they will be able to stand on their own and cultivate a huge portion of land.
“Now the government has taken led to take care of the returnees who came from the countries in partnership with the UNHCR, but now I have 100 bags of rice for the returnees and I also contribute 200 bags to the agriculture issue thanks you people very much”, the representative explains.
On the other hand, Ambassador Mohamed Affey UNHCR’s Special Envoy to IGAD says their visit to Agoro Payam is to see how they can help the returnees and the farmers in the area.
Radio Emmanuel quotes him saying, they cannot solve all problems, but will partner with the state government to find ways of giving support.
Ambassador Affey appreciates the returnees for taking such a wise decision saying “no place is better than home”.
“even with all the challenges you are very happy and still smiling, we are coming here to see how we can help, we shall solve all the problem but we shall partners with your state and the government of South Sudan, you have made a very good decision to come back home because home is always the best home is home congratulation and thanks very much”
