A book that details the inside story on the negotiations that ended the 21-year war in South Sudan was launched yesterday in Juba.
Hilde F Johnson, the deputy director of UNICEF, is the author of Waging Peace in Sudan.Addressing participants during the launch yesterday, the author said that the book is about the South Sudan peace process and it is dedicated to people who are still yearning for peace.
Ms. Johnson added that the CPA’s idea was not only to silence the guns but to have a just Sudan where marginalized peoples had a say in the running of the country and allocation of resources.
The book also reveals how Vice president Ali Osman Taha travelled to UK some six times to try to meet with late Dr. John Garang after the Nakuru negotiations failed.
The book states that the US government, led by President George W. Bush, played a key role in achieving the CPA.
It however condemns the international community for failing to follow up the implementation of the agreement.
The book costs 125 Sudanese pounds and is on sale in bookshops around South Sudan.
