The Acting Director for the Special Protection Unit in Torit Municipality Police Central Division in Eastern Equatoria is encouraging men to report gender-based violence cases.
Betty Konio Valerio notes that it is mainly women reporting cases of gender based violence while men shy away.
She explains that keeping quiet with the cases is not a good idea since it may lead to different actions.
“I normally receive cases from the two-sex male and female they do report however only few men who are reporting, but because of the shy that men have in their hearts that hinder them from reporting, but others are reporting, I know through the radio it will also give them mandate to keep on reporting rather than keeping quiet, it may lead to different action”, Konio explains.
The officer says they are receiving cases of physical violence and economic violence as a result of excessive alcohol consumption and tendencies of not meeting women’s demands.
“The physical violence I am receiving it has been generated from drankardness, I think this alcoholic it is the major issue that inflict the case of GBV and as well also economic violence where women demands are not address it becomes a violence also”, she says.
The speaker made the remarks to Radio Emmanuel on Wednesday in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State.
