Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore discloses government’s plan to hold national unity tournament in Torit.
During the closure of inter-Payam tournament organized by SPLM in Magwi County on Sunday, he said the tournament will bring together all counties in state to compete in Torit, Radio Emmanuel reported.
“Soon we are going to organize tournament for national unity, and will start from counties. All counties will go to Torit for competition and the State government will give uniform to the every county. Thank you because you have selected some players who are going to represent their county later in the coming tournament. Then after that competition, we are going to form State team who will go and play in Juba and this State team will be selected from all the counties”, the governor reveals.
Deputy Governor Mary Nadiong Alfonse says promoting sports activities in the state is one way to togetherness and unity.
She adds that the people of Eastern Equatoria are peace loving community and that it is a sign of the implementation of the peace agreement.
“The people of EES are people who love peace so I will say this is what the peace agreement says. It says ‘we have to do things together’. We are all the children of EES regardless of any ideology that we buy in; we all belong to this State. The difference in opinion shouldn’t be the thing that we should kill ourselves for. This country is not going back to war, so what we need to do is to promote this kind of activities, she cheers people.
The deputy governor says it is the role of the leaders to ensure that all people are unified by being exemplary.
“As part of promoting peace among our community, it is our responsibilities as leaders to bring our people together. The more they see us together, the more we build their confidence. Today the people of EES and Magwi have proven that with all our small differences we are just one people so there is no way we can act in a way that contravene the agreement that they we all signed and must live in peace”, she points out.
Popular South Sudanese Musician known by his stage name as Silver X appreciates the government for bringing the initiative to unite the youth through sport activities.
“I would like to say thank you so much for making this, you know right now entertainment and sport is the heart of the government itself when u rush to change the future and give the future to our children”.
This is the second time Magwi County organizes the inter-Payam tournament for both male and female football clubs.
In the final match, Owiny Ki bul Payam girls team beats Obbo girls three goals in a penalty while Omeo Payam boys team beats Lobone Payam boys team two-zero.
The event was attended by over 10,000 people from Eastern, Central Equatoria and including some visitors from Uganda.
