Southern Sudan Anti-corruption Commission has a very limited mandate because it is regulated by an establishment law, its head said.

Chairperson Pauline Riak said during a public presentation last week in Juba that citizens have big expectations regarding the Anti-corruption Commission while she acknowledged not much has been done.

However, she explained that her commission has not been idle, that it has gone through the GoSS expenditure during its first eighteen months and identified many problems in procurement and contracts.

Dr. Riek said the commission is mandated to protect public property, investigate corruption and educate the public about the evils of corruption.

Dr. Riak said her commission is neither the police nor a judge.

She explained that the results of their investigations are passed forward to the respective institutions that decide what action to take.
