The Catholic Diocese of Yei on Wednesday launched its diocesan synod at Christ the King Cathedral with Eucharistic celebrations.
Pope Francis had earlier announced the ordinary synod of the Bishops on 9th-10th October 2021 that will take place in 2023.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe during the launch of the event, explains that the synod is a meeting of all the Catholic Bishops in the whole world.
He adds that the synod takes place after every five years when all Bishops of the world gather with the Pope to discuss issues about the life of the Church.
“The synod is a meeting of all the catholic Bishops of the world and this kind of meeting takes place every five Years when the Bishops of all the nations gather together to Rome with the Pope to discuss a very serious issue in the life of the Church which helps the Church to grow”, reveals Bishop Lodu.
The catholic prelate mentions that the synod will discuss about communion, participation and mission.
He cites that communion is the unity of the one baptism and faith of Christians, unity and love with Jesus Christ.
The Bishop encourages the faithful to work together in carrying and fulfilling the mandate Christ gave to believers to proclaim His good news.
“The discussion in the catholic Church is communion, participation and mission. This communion is the unity in our one baptism and faith with one another and with Christ. Communion, unity and love among ourselves. The other part is participation, if we are one; we have to work together as one in carrying on what is demanded of us according to the mandate of Christ. Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news and added to that is the question of the mission. Communion, participation and mission, we are all saints sent to the whole world to be messengers and together as one body of Christ to ensure that the message of salvation reaches to every part of the world, “the Bishop tells the Christians.
The synod is under the theme: “Synodality itself: For a Synodal Church: “Communion, Participation and Mission”.
Vatican had earlier approved an enhanced three-stage process for the next gathering of the synod to encompass the whole Church at the diocesan, national and continental levels.
The enhanced process invites more participation at the diocesan level.
