The Catholic Church in the Sudan is launching an appeal after a two-day meeting with international partners to assess current needs.

Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur of Khartoum explained to SCR News that the Churches in the South are struggling to receive returnees coming from the North and to rehabilitate communities that during the war depended on relief to survive.

He added that the participants in the workshop prepared an emergency appeal to be presented to international partners.

Bishop Adwok said he urged the agencies to establish a forum of dialogue with the bishops because they are the policy makers of the dioceses.

The auxiliary bishop of Khartoum explained that this was the second appeal prepared by the Catholic Church in the Sudan.

The first was launched to get assistance for education and peace building programmes leading to the referendum.

The meeting that concluded in Juba on Tuesday was organized by the Office of Aid and Development of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference in collaboration with the diocesan offices of Sudan Aid and Caritas International.
