GoSS minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development said the new South Sudan Constitution process will be inclusive and participatory.

John Luk Jok told the crowd that attended his public lecture on constitutional developments yesterday at Nyokuron Cultural Centre that the new Constitution process after the independence will be more transparent than the current revision.

The opposition parties and civil society criticised the SPLM and the government for leaving them out of the process to revise the interim constitution that will govern the new country after independence.

Dr. Luk, who heads the technical revision committee, explained that the new Constitution will be prepared in a second phase after extensive public education and wide consultations to make the basic law inclusive.

Dr. Luk added the process that will prepare the new Constitution has to be well defined to help the people of South Sudan to feel that they own their Constitution.

He added that the current revision had to be done in a hurry since the Interim Constitution should be out before the end of April.

The minister added the time frame for the review of the Interim Constitution was very short and did not allow wider consultations.
