Man shot dead along Torit-Hileu road, confirms police

A man has reportedly been shot dead along Torit-Hilieu road, reports Director for Public Relations, Moral and Orientation in the South Sudan Police Service in Eastern Equatoria State.

Colonel, Mathew Ochan Jacob, says the decease has been identified as Henry Ohiri.

He adds that the body was found lying lifelessly along the road heading to Hilieu village.

The incident occurred over the weekend, on Saturday, at around 4:20 pm.

“Truly, we received an information concerning the incident [that] took place along Hileu road at around four twenty five pm, when the Boda-Boda rider by the name Abraham Odong left from here going to Hileu, he found late Henry Ohiri shot dead on the way. He came back and reported the issue to the police station. We tried our best, we reached there at the late hours, because of mobility problem, even the foot marks, the directions, where the criminals who shot the late cannot be identified”.

He says investigation is ongoing and a police force has been deployed to patrol the road, at least twice a day.

“Until now, the security is following up, the investigation is continuing, we are still collecting information, the DATAs, until we reach a mission concerning the incident. In fact we are now organizing our self as the organized forces, since from that day until now, there is car patrol moving up to Hileu and back, per day may be two times to monitor the road and back”.

Ochan urges the public to be calm, as they enter Christmas season, assuring it of safety along the roads, since police forces will be deployed.

“We know now we are going to the time of Christmas, and I just want to inform the public, especially Eastern Equatoria State, Torit, let us be free, no body to be afraid, we are now organizing our self to deploy all forces to the Hot pots, the road sides, within the town, even along Juba road, Kapoeta road and Hileu road, we are now preparing to deploy the forces to control until the first or the fourth of January. You people, feel free there is nothing, the forces are here, and we will use them”.

The speaker made the remarks to Radio Emmanuel from his office at the police head quarter in Torit.
