Christ the King Parish, Magwi, in the Catholic Diocese of Torit, has celebrated its centenary.

The celebration theme was taken from the book of “John 17 which says ‘They may be one in love, peace and unity’.

Speaking during the celebration, Christ the King Parish Priest, Fr. Patrick Igwe, of Magwi, said the vision of the church is to create love among Christians.

“We have titled our celebration in the parish that they may be one in love, peace and unity, taken from the passage of the prayer of Jesus in John 17 as Jesus prepared to leave his disciples and his will was that his church be one, united, loving and peaceful. This has been our vision here at Christ the King Parish Magwi, to create a community of love where we love one another as Jesus loves us, to create a community that fosters peace that is what our community needs most at this moment”.

Fr. Patrick said there have been a lot of activities that took place during the celebration, including baptism and wedding.

“We have had a day of baptism were about 85 children were baptized, we have also had a reception of first Holy Communion which takes about 120 children, two women were received back to the church and four couples were wedded. They are a sign of our faith; they are the smart of this centenary that we are celebrating, that we can progress. Centenary is not all about food we eat, it is a statement that we have come of age as a church and we want to be exemplary to those who are not Christians”.

The centenary celebration gathered thousands of Christians from Parishes across Eastern Equatoria State.

During the celebration, foundation stone for the school was laid by Archbishop Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla.
