The Primary Eight Examination results for Lakes State Schools were released on Wednesday with Yirol schools producing the best three candidates.
Lakes State Education Director General Kongor Deng Kongor told Good News Radio that a total of 1,471 candidates sat for the Primary School Examination and three quarters passed.He added that the top student was Abraham Ngor Mabor from Holy Cross Comboni Primary School in Yirol, scoring 348 marks out of 350.
Mr. Kongor said there was an improvement of 2.4 percent in the general performance of primary students in the examination.
He commended teachers, the school administration and parents for this year’s better results.
Mr. Kongor added that girls face many challenges at school and his office is taking measures to promote their education.
Mr. Kongor said it was very difficult to get over 1,100 candidates into the few secondary schools in the State, including a number of student returnees.
He said that his office has arranged to have a Day Secondary School in Rumbek to cater for the candidates who will not find a place in the existing secondary schools.
Lakes State has 35 registered primary schools plus five secondary schools, two of which are administered by the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
