Jonglei State Legal Advisor is urging the national government to discuss with Uganda to minimize Lake Victoria dam windows to avoid over flooding in Bor town.
Diing Akol Diing told journalists on Sunday that they are aware that Lake Victoria is full and the Ugandan government seems to be opening all windows of the dam which is affecting the community in Bor.
“We are hearing that Uganda is opening the dam because the water level in Lake Victoria has gone high so they will open all the windows which is really threat to the community that are along the River, so it’s a serious issue and we appeal to national government to talk to the Ugandan government at least to minimize the opening of the dam they should not be open all the windows”.
Akol says the national government should also talk with Sudanese government so that they can open the dam windows at their side to allow the water to go out in the places.
“We also appeal to national government to talk to the Sudan government to open the dam Jebele Awulia, Marawi they have to be open so that the water can floor”.
The advisor appreciates the national government together with the humanitarian agencies for the good cooperation they are doing to help the clashes.
The responsibility of the national government is to drag the river because the state government does not have that capacity to drag the River, Akol adds.
He notes that “we are seeing that the state government, the national government and humanitarian organizations have really joined hands to support the flood victims in Jonglei State and we appreciate that spirit, WFP has done a lot in providing food and non food items to IDPs”.
He says through government support, ARC is working very hard to see that some of roads are safe.
Akol discloses that the government has managed to buy ten generators which are pumping the water across Bor town.
“We have been trying to manage the situation here in Bor and the government have manage to buy water pump for this counties, we bought about seven water pump plus three donated by AIDA so we have sent them to the counties for pumping water from the sides, now we have also sent sandpapers for those who have dyke around their settlement, so that is effort the government have been doing, with our partners they have really donated some of items like sandbags to all the counties and especially in Bor Town we have been supporting by all the Humanitarian agencies with the necessary assistance that are need during this situation of floods”.
The Legal advisor thanks youth for closing some of the sides with dykes to make sure that the water should not affect the other side.
Diing reveals that Fangak, Fiji, Twic East, Ayod, Duk and Bor Counties across Jonglei State had been going under serious flooding.
