The SPLM started today in Juba a five-day workshop to discuss ways of developing the economy of the region ahead of the independence.
Gabriel Alak, SPLM national secretariat for finance, told the participants that the workshop will focus on policy proposals that will create more employment opportunities and help eradicating poverty.The workshop under the theme Growth and Sustainable Development in a New Republic of South Sudan will discuss ways of reviving and exploring non-oil sources.
Anne Itto, SPLM deputy secretary general for the southern sector, said after the crisis of 2008 when the government was forced to cut its programmes due to a sharp fall on oil prices.
She added that it was time for South Sudan to focus on non-oil resources like agriculture to generate money for the poor.
Te workshop is attended by state ministers of Finance, diplomats and professionals the from economic sector.
