The memory of South Sudan heroines and heroes is to be celebrated with a monument to be built upon the tomb of Dr. John Garang de Mabior.

GoSS culture and heritage Minister Gabriel Changson Chang presented the project to the press today.

He said that the monument will be 42 meters high and will display the names of all Southerners who died during the struggle for independence.

The pyramid shaped monument will be complete with a memorial wall in marble with the names of South Sudan’s martyrs.

Dr. Changson said the project that should cost three million pounds will be presented to the Cabinet on Friday for approval.

He added that the celebrations of independence will take place at Dr. Garang’s Mausoleum and the area will receive a giant mast to hold the national flag and a high stage for the declaration of independence.
