UNICEF chief field office for Greater Equatoria said the agency is working hard to provide scholastic materials to school children before the beginning of the academic year.

Grace Kyeyune told SCR News that UNICEF supports the ministries of education in the three Equatoria states by providing school materials that will include students’ kit, exercise books, teachers’ kit, recreation kit, blackboards and school bags.

She said the UN agency is targeting almost 500,000 students in the Greater Equatoria alone.

Ms. Kyeyune explained that the arrival of returnees and new enrolments have increased the estimated number of students in the three states.

Ms. Kyeyune added that the distribution of school materials started last week in Upper Nile state and it will begin soon in Greater Equatoria.
