The future of South Sudan is in the hands of women, a Church leader said while encouraging parents to send girls to school.

Sr. Noelle Gorscadden is the Provincial Superior of the Province of the Loreto Sisters in Ireland. She told Good News Radio that after a few days of interaction with the girls at the Loreto Girls’ Boarding Secondary School in Rumbek, the students revealed they want to be educated.

She encouraged parents to send girls to school because the future of the nation lies in hands of women.

Sr. Noelle explained that educated girls have the ability to pass on their wisdom and an attitude of acceptance, reconciliation and peace.

The Provincial Superior encouraged the girls studying at Loreto School to be optimistic and to begin thinking more about what they can do for their new nation than what the nation should do for them.

Sr. Noelle also congratulated the people of South Sudan for the successful referendum, encouraging them to work together to build the new nation.

She advised the citizens of South Sudan to develop an appreciation for cultural diversity and see how to tap on the talents of different groups of people, avoiding the spirit of competition and the practice of tribalism.

The Loreto School was established in 2007 in Rumbek and will have its pioneer students sitting for their Secondary School Certificate Examination this academic year.
