Upper Nile governor blamed the National Congress Party (NCP) for Saturday’s attack in Malakal town that was carried out by militias loyal to commander Olony.

Simon Kun Puoch told the press yesterday that the attack on Malakal town was politically motivated and the guns and ammunitions the militias use were brought from the north.

He accused the NCP of playing a cheap propaganda game by aiding Southerners to fight against themselves in order to pass the message that the region is not able to manage its own affairs after independence.

Mr. Kun said Olony militias entered Malakal town to attack and destroy key security areas including the government secretariat, banks, radio stations and the airport.

Mr. Kun said the SPLA flushed Olony’s men out of the town.

He added that a number of attackers were captured and others killed during the fight but he did not present concrete figures.
