UNOPs launches Safety Net project for vulnerable households in Yei

United Nations Office for Project Services or UNOPs on Wednesday officially launched South Sudan Safety net project in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State.

The project aims at providing access to temporary income opportunities to selected poor and vulnerable households and strengthens safety net delivery tools in a conflict and covid-19 sensitive manner, Radio Easter reported.

Other objective aims at encouraging enhanced community engagement capacity building and dialogue for trust building, peaceful cooperation, unity and social cohesion.

It is also to mitigate gender-based risk to promote more inclusive and resilient societies.

Central Equatoria State Acting Director for Agriculture Extension and Delivery, Aquilino Lodu Legge believes that the project will help the vulnerable people.

Lodu regrets that lack of coordination with the State Ministry of Agriculture affects solving issues that are challenging to counties.

He cites untimely seed distribution as a major challenge that is affecting farming communities.

Commissioner Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa calls on citizens and government to own the safety net project to benefit the people to be food secured.

He calls on the directorate of agriculture to train extension workers to train farmers on practical agriculture investment.

The speakers made the statements on Wednesday at Youths garden in Yei.
