A political analyst said army soldiers suspected of deliberately targeting young civilians in the recent clashes in Upper Nile should be tried and punished to stop the escalation of violence.

He added that the army should investigate the allegations and take measures against the incriminated soldiers.

Mr. Ashworth said there is no wave of violence across south Sudan but isolate episodes of people trying to solve their own issues through fighting.

He said negotiations are the best way to restore peace in South Sudan and praised the SPLM and SPLA for bringing together different factions through an amnesty prior to the referendum.

Mr. Ashworth praised also the role Catholic and Episcopalian church leaders prayed in the negotiations with George Athor.
