Women call for end to sexual gender violence in Yei

Women in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State are calling on the government of South Sudan and partners to work hard to end sexual gender-based violence.

Voice for Change senior social worker, Night Jessica, says it is a collective responsibility to reduce occurrence and perpetuation of the practice.

She urges the government to set laws that punish perpetrators of sexual based violence in order to minimize cases of SGBV in the county and nation at large.

Jessica believes that failure to punish perpetuators of sexual gender-based violence will de-empower survivors from reporting cases.

The senior social worker urges stakeholders to ensure schools are supervised and enlightened on sexual gender-based violence in order to curb occurrence.

She also calls on none-governmental organizations concerned with gender-based violence to support in reporting issues of the harmful practice.

Kanjoro Primary School teacher, Betty Adili Michael, appeals to the government to punish and hold perpetuators of sexual gender-based violence accountable.

She encourages her fellow teachers not to be victims of perpetuating sexual gender-based violence in the school environment.

The women called on religious leaders to do awareness in the places of worship in order for people to denounce the act in communities.

They appeal for speedy implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in order to reduce some cases which occur due to the presence of conflict.
