The County Commissioner of Magwi in Eastern Equatoria State vows to improve the security situation in the county.

Otto David Remson made this statement to Radio Emmanuel after the Human Security Survey Validation results of 2019 to 2020.

The survey indicates that sixty four percent of the security situation has improved in the county.

David predicts more improvement in security once the authorities use some different mechanisms.

“I proposed at the end of the year and earlier next we shall be able also to reduce the security situation. We make sure that there is some mechanism that we can do to control the insecurity of the area to come down. First of all the responsibility of the security is in the hands of the civil population of Magwi and everybody has the right to protect him or herself so that security boost. We will make sure that we engage all the community at all levels, youth, women, elders and all the organized forces, the military in my County so that we are able to rectify the issues of insecurity around”.

Commissioner David cites that Nimule town is the most affected area in terms of insecurity.

He adds that the authorities were able to arrest some of the gangs involved in criminal acts in the area.

“It was a high level of the situation, especially Nimule Town Council, the population of the area are a bit in panic when they move at night, you are disturb, you are beaten. We have arrested 67 of these youths again after that we arrested around 27 and up to now still they continue to arrest and these are the mechanisms we are trying to bring to the insecurity of the area”.

David urges citizens in Eastern Equatoria State especially the youth to embrace peace.

“Let us embrace especially the youth, let us come together, let us come to a freedom that we can have our own freedom, we can go to school, access to hospital, we can move, we have our good roads and so many access, the network is in the system. And I also advise my brothers, especially from Torit to Kapoeta, to give us a chance for peace now. Let us also advocate ourselves in all whatever is necessary”.

The official made the remarks in an exclusive interview in Torit.
