Community focused group has called on the concerned authorities to scrutinize cases of gender based violence in the country.

They say cases of GBV such as beating wife, rape and early forced marriages are highly practiced in the community.

One of the youth members from Oruhoi Boma in Himodonge Payam, Joseph Oting Francis calls for awareness on the dangers of G.B.V.

“GBV cases are serious cases that we have learnt that requires change. Beating wife and raping is not good. The other bad things are quarrels at home. This is not good. If you rape someone’s daughter, for example, the mother or daughter can become angry and kill you. This will bring misunderstanding “, said Oting.

He also calls on the government to ban girl child compensation because the girl is innocent.

“Our people in the community should know the bad practices of girl child compensation. It is something bad, the child is someone innocent. She has done nothing, if a person did something bad like he kill a person, cows or money should be used for compensation, if the law says this person has to be imprisoned, he should be taken to prison because he has done something bad. If a child is compensated she will face several difficulties. She will be a slave, THE YOUTH ADDED.

He said “People should always listen to what they are being taught on the issue of gender based violence, and government should also reach people in a good way, in case any form of domestic violence is committed and reported, it should be taken in to action”, said the youth member.

Another participant, Harien Isai, calls on the government to protect people against GBV.

The speakers made the statement to Radio Emmanuel in an exclusive interview during a community focused group discussion on GBV in Himodonge Payam.
