Students at Lakes State National Teachers Training Institute in Rumbek on Tuesday boycotted classes and organized a peaceful demonstration, decrying poor lodging at the institution.
Student leader Mark Madhol told Good News Radio that the trainees are accommodated in inhuman conditions deprived of basic needs like food, water, shelter and even toilets. He accused GoSS ministry of education and the principal for mistreating teachers.
Another teacher trainee, Akhol James, vented his anger due to lack of food at the Institute and said he was ready to return home.
Principal Jacob Maker Macek, refuted the trainees’ claims terming them as lies.
He accused some trainees of running away because they were not being able to cope with the academic standards of the Institute especially the use of English.
Mr. Maker said the course started with 400 teachers trainees but so far 73 have already abandoned the training.
