JUBA WOMEN CELEBRATE CENTENARY INTERNATIONAL DAY

Women in Juba joined their sisters around the world to celebrate their hundredth day hoping for better future.

GoSS Gender minister Agnes Kwaje Lasuba told the crowd that gathered at Nyakuron Cultural Centre that women should pass messages to reinforce their struggle for gender equality and fight marginalization and oppression.

The minister added that discrimination against women is as old as human history.

Singer Beaty Toni told SCR News that the situation of girls in the South is worse because they are forced to marry very young.

She added government should pass a law forbidding forced and early marriages in South Sudan.

Business woman Hafsa Anguparu said many communities in South Sudan do not value women.

She added that women are considered as house workers to do heavy duties while their husbands go out to drink.

Ms. Anguparu added that women should get involved in businesses and associate with other sisters to gain value in their communities.

The International Women’s Day was founded in 1911 and today marked its hundredth of celebration under the theme Equal Access to Education, Training, Science and Technology pathway to decent work for women.
