African Inland Church, Reverend Peter Lokai was shot dead by armed men at around 1:00 a.m, at his home in Inkaz residential area of Eastern Equatoria State.
Confirming to Radio Emmanuel, Police Spokesperson, Major Justin Kleopas Takuru, says he received a phone call about the shooting of the reverend and he sent some forces to the scene immediately.
Takuru says the attackers took the deceased phones and the he visitors he was hosting at his home.
The visitors he hosted came from Juba for the election of African Inland Church Bishop.
“The reality is that, I was given a call at 2 in the morning, that there was someone shot in Ifwanyak, so we send our people they reach finding a person shot at side of the breast, but he was still alive. He was rushed to the hospital but he couldn’t talk, at 2 a.m he got a call that this person died, and he was shot one bullet at breast, he is call
pastor Peter Lokai from Dongotono with 49 years, he was yesterday evening at the church, so he went home with some two visitors, he was sleeping in house and visitors also slept in their room, so this attackers enter via bamboo fence and call him when he came from his house is when he was shot at a danger place he tried crying
but he cannot, so this people enter the house took his phone and to visitors and also took their phones and went”.
Takuru says investigations are ongoing to find out the root causes of the killing.
He adds that it is not the first time they receive cases of insecurity in the same place and Iluhum residential area.
“We have started our work mostly our guys from CID we will get the reality, this thing is not happening that people are being killed, but they just beat and take their property, is mostly happening in inkas and iluhum areas, where people are robbing, we police we have dangerous issues, more specially this person is a pastor from
A.I.C. in Torit here, so they are in process of electing their Bishop”.
African Inland Church Secretary in South Sudan, Rev. Mulungula Mutitia says they are saddened by the demise of the pastor.
He describes the late as a humble person who dedicated himself to serve the Lord in Torit.
Rev Mulugula urges Christians in Torit and Eastern Equatoria State to pray for the family of the deceased.
“Indeed he is very important person in o congregation because he is the chairman of our district church council in Torit here, it is a shock and a blow to us, this has been humble person, somebody dedicate to his work of God to simply go away finally it is sad news for us, because of that today we could not hold our general assembly, we
suspend it, I want to tell our congregation, members who are around Torit, that at the moment we morning, and those who are part of us outside their they will join us in part of mourning, they have to pray for the family we need wisdom from God and courage we are in dilemma now, let them take courage his time has come but eh
battle remains ours.“
