Torit Diocesan annual general meeting concludes with a call for self-reliance

Catholic Diocese Annual Diocesan General Assembly meeting 2020-2021 concluded on Thursday in Torit town.

Mulla is calling on priests to be self-reliance through investing on the schools, hospitals and lands that belongs to the parish to generate income to aid the diocese.
He tasked Parish Priests to appoint pastoral councils and land committees of all parishes to be innovative.


“We are advising you to prepare for self-reliance this was already outlined by the roadmap that I told several time to you here, that self-reliance can be from the hospitals, schools and the land in the parish. We have a lot of property, we are poor but we have a lot of property that will generate a lot of money for us in the diocese and in the parish. The parish priests are delegated strongly by the Bishops to appoint pastoral council for each parish and also the land committee, so you continue at least to be innovative in your parishes, Archbishop directed priests.

The catholic prelate mentioned that every project of the Diocese and its department must pass through the office of the project coordinator before implementation.
He called for joint work from all departments to strengthen one another and the Catholic Diocese of Torit.


I would like to appreciate your communion with me, thank you very much for understanding, let us stick together in sharing, let us forgive each other, my dear brothers the system can save all of us from being blamed by the way all the projects that are there in the diocese and you have written them may be as a parish priest, or
else a seminary rector, please they must pass through the office, whether the project is coming or going, my dear fathers or lay people we need to work together in order to strengthen ourselves or the system of the diocese”, he appealed.


Archbishop Ameyu said parish priests be give Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation to people who want to join the family of God. During the Annual General meeting, the Apostolic Administrator appointed Father Dario’s Modi, Loa Parish Priest in Western Deanery, Father Dario’s Aritee, Assistant Parish Priest of St Matthew Ikotos in Central Denary and Father Paul Lomana as a chancellor in the diocese.

“You have to understand that the three sacraments can be given by any parish priests, especially on the vigil mass of Easter, you don’t need to wait for the Bishop to come and confirm after you have Baptist and you have given communion no, we have a number of appointment that are new, we have appointed Father Dario’s
Aritee as an assistant parish priest of St Matthew parish in Ikotos, father Dario’s Modi as a parish priest of Loa and lastly Father Paul Lomana as a chancellor, but he will be responsible for the project of the building of the church and he reports to me, this are the appointment that we have for the Diocese commit yourself wherever you
are a pointed”, he announced.


Archbishop Ameyu appointed Fr. Lazarus Olia as Dean of Western Deanery, Fr. Peter Ben, as dean of Central Denary and Fr. Alfred Loguti as Dean of Eastern Denary.

The Catholic Diocese of Torit comprises three Deaneries since its establishment in 1983 during the time of Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban.
