Five people have been killed after gunmen allegedly attacked Kidepo Payam Wildlife base in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria State on Sunday.
Budi County Commissioner, Akileo Mboya Peter confirms to Radio Emmanuel that Wildlife Officer, his wife and child were among those who died.
Mboya adds that investigations are on-going to arrest the perpetrators.
“An incident took place yesterday night at around 3am, where some unknown people came and attacked the wild life base at Kidepo, killing five people, that is the wildlife officer and we went to the scene and followed the footmarks. The footmarks go to Ikwoto County. We are still investigating and see what had happened from other side. We called the commissioner of Ikwoto to see exactly what had triggered this incident”.
Budi County Commissioner describes the incident as a revenge killing.
“It has been reported that some youths from the Buya area went to Ikwoto County. I think they brought some cows where there is seem to be killing there, but this needs to be verified. I call the commissioner to verify the killing that resulted to this killing., That is why I’m saying these are revenge issues which are very dangerous. The security situation in Budi County is not bad, except this incident that has happened that is associated with a revenge killing”.
Mboya calls on the youths to refrain from revenge killings, labelling it as a barbaric act.
He however calls on the state government to intervene and investigate the matter.
“I condemn this incident. It is really becoming too much and I really urge our youths to stop this kind of revenge because the people in the coldblooded are really innocent people, innocent women and innocent children who have nothing to do because people who are in this town are innocent who are armless and revenge always goes to people who are not armed. So I’m asking all the youths to stop this and I’m really condemning this in strongest term. This is very bad it is a barbaric act and this is the act of terrorism which has to stop that why I’m calling for the state government intervention to really bring this to an end”.
Radio Emmanuel tried to reach the commissioner of Ikwoto County, but it was unsuccessful.
