Security was restored in Tonj South County, Warrap state, after clashes between Thiet and Wunah-alel communities killed four people.

Tonj South Commissioner Akec Tong told Don Bosco FM that the culprits were jailed and there should be no revenge attacks because the authorities are in control.

The commissioner said the dry season is the worst time for conflict since cattle keepers have to compete for water and pastures.

Mr. Tong said the authorities deployed 350 soldiers at the grazing areas and they will remain there until the rains.

The commissioner added that civilians carrying guns will be disarmed.

During the dry season there is a huge competition for water and pastures among cattle herders and many times it ends up in deadly conflicts the Tonj authorities want to avoid.
