Juba residents celebrated last night the announcement of the final referendum results with chants of triumph and dancing.

The crowd was glued on to a big screen to follow the announcement broadcasted live by SSTV from the Friendship Hall in Khartoum.

The crowds chanted Up up the flag is up.

Santino Reik, a student at the University of Juba, told SCR News that he was happy to be a first-class citizen in his own country.

He said the independence was not for any particular tribe or party but for all the people of South Sudan.

SPLA Colonel Jok said he was very happy because South Sudan got what it was working for since 1955.

He urged people not to exaggerate with the celebrations.

Hundreds sang and danced through the night at Dr. John Garang’s Mausoleum.
