The United States Embassy in South Sudan says it is concerned with the continued delay in the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

The embassy said in a statement on Wednesday that it has noted persistent delays in the reconstitution of the transitional legislative assembly.

The embassy says the presence of the novel coronavirus must not be used as excuse since most of the activities can be done remotely.

The Government of National Unity currently operates without a national budget for the fiscal year 2020 to 2021 following delays in reconstituting parliament.

Parties to the 2018 peace deal on Sunday missed a deadline to dissolve and reconstitute the parliament.

Regional bloc, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD on July 14 called on President Salva Kiir to dissolve the current National Legislative Assembly by July 26.
