IOM urges South Sudan to enact anti-human trafficking law

The International Organization for Migration or IOM is calling on the government of South Sudan to enact laws to combat human trafficking in the country.
 
The call was made in Juba on Wednesday following the release of a report about human trafficking in South Sudan.
 
IOM Chief of Mission in South Sudan, Jean Philippe Chauzy said the report found that there is widespread human trafficking taking place in the country.
 
The Chief of Mission urged government of South Sudan to accent to the UN Convention on Human Trafficking and also enact a law to fight trafficking in the country.
 
Deputy Inspector of Police, James Pui Yak, admitted that human trafficking is a major problem in South Sudan.
 
He said the government will work with partners to fight the practice in the new nation.
 
The officials spoke to journalists in Juba on Wednesday ahead of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons commemorated every July 30th.
