The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and the UN refugee agency, UNHCR said they verified 11, 383 South Sudanese refugees who have returned home from neighbouring countries in June.

The Commission and UNHCR in a joint report said the latest data represents a spike in refugee returns compared to the months of April and May.

The report says the return of South Sudanese refugees has been on the rise despite restriction of cross-border movements because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report said over three hundred thousand South Sudanese refugees have so far returned home since November 2017.

It added that 180,000 of the returnees arrived after the signing of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in 2018.
