Traders in Yei municipality attributed the increase of prices in the town to lockdown due to covid-19 and the rise in dollars in black market.
Trader Yousif Mahmud Jalika said price fluctuation is affecting them because the wholesalers are selling goods expensive, force them to sell on high prices to consumers.
Mahmud admitted that citizens are suffering, but they had no option because when they sell at low prices, they will not gain profit.
Another retailer, Hassan Dawud, explained that the issues of border, coronavirus and dollar rising lead to high prices in markets.
A carton of washing soap is now at 3,500ssp, jerry-can of cooking oil cost 7,500 SSP sugar 11,500 Pounds and maize flour 11,500 SSP, he said.
Another trader accused the government of making a lot of road blocks from Juba to Yei with high taxation, forcing them to increase the prices.
Radio Easter was unable to contact the Chamber of Commerce in Yei to commend on the skyrocketing prices in markets.
