The U.S. Institute of Peace or USIP announces the 10 finalists for 2020 Women Building Peace Award.
South Sudan’s Executive director of Eve organization for Women Development Rita Martin Lopidia is among the ten women USIP has recognized for their contribution for peace building in their countries.
She says this award is an achievement to the people of South Sudan especially for women and youth.
Rita encourages young women and girls to be passionate about their work in order to achieve their dreams.
Some staff of Eve Organization congratulates their executive director for this big milestone.
USIP will announce the first recipient of the $10,000 award during a virtual ceremony on September 15.
USIP received over 150 nominations of women peace builders from 51 countries.
The ten finalists were selected by USIP’s Women Building Peace Council, an 18-member group of experts and leaders in the fields of gender and peace building, for their exemplary commitment and leadership as peace building practitioners and their key roles in ending and preventing violent conflict.
Collectively, they represent eight countries and an intergenerational group of peace builders.
Other countries who made it to the top ten lists were Colombia, Pakistan, Rwanda, Philippines, DR Congo, Burundi, and Uganda.
