Military court starts hearing of two raped pregnant women

South Sudan Military Court Marshall begins hearing of a case of three women raped by the soldier in Lasu Payam of Yei River County.
 
Two of the rape survivors were pregnant women.
 
Director General in the ministry of local government and law enforcement Leone Lemeri George encourages people to report cases of abuses.
 
He adds if any civilian’s right has been violated they should come forward and seek for justice.
 
Director Lemeri regrets that since the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement or CPA no soldier in Yei was brought to justice.
 
Lemeri explains that his ministry will do its best to enforce laws and rights of people and hold perpetrators to account.
 
He explains the government has all infrastructures to protect the rights of citizens and people should know their rights.
 
The director appreciates those who came forward with different complains of rape, looting, beating and murder by the soldier.
 
‘My brothers and colleagues the soldiers are here to abide by the law, they are not above the law, whoever has violated the law will be punished and whoever his/her right had been abused will receive justice’, says director
 
This is the first hearing of the case of three women raped in Lasu Payam on January 8th 2020 where two of them were pregnant.
 
The ruling is postponed to Tuesday July 14th 2020 due to lack of witness during the hearing.
