President Salva Kiir Mayardit vowed to address the issues of corruption in the National Revenue Authority.

He said majority of non-oil revenue collected across South Sudan is misappropriated by corrupt officials, Bakhita Radio reported.

President Kiir promised to crack down on the corrupt officials and ensure that government is able to pay salaries of civil servants using revenues generated from taxes.

‘The non-oil revenues can help the government meet basic expenditure such as wages and operations if collected and suitably remitted to the national treasury’, he noted.

Earlier this week, minister of Livestock, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwech accused some tax collectors of diverting government revenues into their personal accounts.
