GOVERNMENT PREPARES FEDERAL CAPITAL

The Government of South Sudan discussed yesterday the issue of a federal capital befitting for the new state and proposed to locations: in front of Juba on the White Nile Eastern bank or in Lakes State.

GoSS spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press yesterday after the Cabinet ended that the Ministry of Investment presented the project to develop a capital city for the new country.

He added that there are two alternatives: to make the federal capital East of Juba on the other White Nile bank and create a new administrative area with parts of Central and Eastern Equatoria and Jonglei and Lakes state or Ramshel, in Lakes State.

Dr. Marial said a GoSS ministerial committee integrating the ministries of Housing and Physical Infrastructure, Health and Rural Development will study the two alternatives to report their findings within three weeks.

He added that the Ministry of Higher Education is handling the situation of thousands of university and secondary school students who arrived from the North.

Dr. Marial said the council of ministers expressed concern about the situation of South Sudanese in Egypt and urged them t keep away from trouble.
