The Inter-Religious Committee for Peace in partnership with the former Yei River State government on Saturday launched a prayer and fasting to combat covid-19 pandemic in the region, South Sudan and the world at large.
The event brought together both Christians and Muslims representatives, government officials, international community representatives and choir members of Christ the King Cathedral.
Peter Tibi, Executive Director of Reconcile International, said the prayer and fasting is for the nation to seek wisdom and guidance from God against covid-19 pandemic.
Ali Mogga, Islamic Council Secretary-General in Yei said prayer and fasting teach people to be patient and tolerant to situations and bring the faithful closer to God.
He said there is a great hope that covid-19 will go away from the world.
The Secretary-General encouraged South Sudanese to repent and ask for forgiveness from God to respond to the situation.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe, chairperson of the Inter-Religious Committee, said the prayer and fasting was for the good of the people of Yei, South Sudan and the whole world.
Former Yei River State Administrator, Amule Felix Sosthene cautions that covid-19 affects and destroys societies.
He appreciated the religious leaders for always working hard for the sake of the ordinary citizens in the world, South Sudan and Yei in particular.

Christians pray and fast every Thursday and Muslims do the same every Friday until the corona virus pandemic is combated in the world.
