‘Poverty and drug abuse leads to increase of GBV,’ says citizens

Citizens of defunct Tonj State attribute poverty and high consumption of alcohol to increased rate of Gender Base Violence in the community.
 
Speaking to Don Bosco radio Daniel Mareng Wek stresses traditional beliefs and poverty causes many people to be violent.
 
He explains with the current difficult situation it’s hard to live in harmony with family members.
 
Martha Angau Kook reveals that too much consumption of alcohol by some men leads to domestic violence in many homes.
 
Director for child protection in the ministry of gender, Gabriel Dut Bak says his office works with the police to combat gender based violence.
 
He adds they lack support to widen their fight against GBV in the state.
