A group of South Sudanese named ‘South Sudan Youth for Kenyi’s Support’, have awarded a traffic police officer Kenyi George Lodu with about 400, 000 SSP and other food and non-food items including a car and a land in Juba, as an appreciation for offering good services to people.
After citizens’ recognition of Lodu’s work which they describe as ‘Extraordinary Work, the ministry of Interior has also promoted him to a first lieutenant.
The International communities have also joined hands in contributing to the traffic police officer.
Officers working with Lodu have also been awarded with some money.
South Sudan Youth for Kenyi’s Support Chairlady, Monica Peter encourages other police officers to imitate him, by following the law.
‘Roughly, the money given to him is about 400,000 SSP plus some food and non-food Items that have been contributed to Kenyi like cooking oil, maize flour, rice, sugar and so many kinds of gifts that are given to him. Achai Awiir, also bought for him a car and we also have one of our musicians Silver X who has already given him a piece of land. We are just here to get paper documentation and it’s handed over to him. So a lot of people are appreciating the work that Kenyi is doing and to my surprise, we also have the international community groups that have come up to contribute for him’, says Monica.
Kenyi George Lodu appreciates the team for the award, urging them to continue with the same spirit to develop South Sudan.
“I would like to appreciate Achai Awiir [the lady who contributed a car to Kenyi] for what she has done to me and South Sudan at large. I hope her spirit continues to show example to the rest. In my work here at the roundabout, I work for the protection of every citizen in the country. So all of you [traffic police officers] who are working here, the civilians are all under your protection. I can say I’m not the only good person working in South Sudan, but there are so many of them.’, George notes.
Lodu hopes more people follow his footsteps to develop the country.
‘I hope, many people come up, to develop our country. No one can develop our country and we cannot wait for someone from another country to come and develop our country. We are the ones to develop our country. If you tell or show civilians that what they are doing is wrong, they will fear even when they were angry at first. So I would like to appreciate all of you so much, South Sudan youths”, he adds.
Master of Ceremony during the award exercise, Moro Locombo, said it was a generous contribution from different tribes of South Sudan after observing Kenyi’s good work.
The speakers made the speech during the award ceremony.
This is the first initiative in South Sudan for citizens to reward an officer or a government employee for delivering good services to people.
