The Embassy of the United States of America in Juba is deeply concerned by the high level of violence that has plagued communities across South Sudan in recent months.

The Embassy said it had seen a series of concerning reports regarding mobilization by armed combatants among multiple communities in Jonglei state.

‘We call on national and local leaders to urgently seek de-escalation and dialogue; these efforts must also reach affected communities’, read part of a statement issued on Wednesday.

The Embassy pointed out that many other communities across South Sudan have recently suffered from armed group fighting.

‘We are deeply concerned by reports of the involvement of uniformed combatants and the reported use of weapons such as machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades in some instances’, it said.

The embassy revealed that along with ‘our Troika partners, we have called for the urgent resolution of impasses among transitional government parties over the appointment of state governors’.

Transitional government leaders from all parties have a broader responsibility to demonstrate their affirmative efforts to find solutions to violence across the country, the statement urged.
