The President of the Republic expressed his readiness to accept south Sudan independence during meeting organized by the African Union, UN and IGAD.
SPLM secretary general Pagan Amum, who attended the meeting in Addis Ababa-Ethiopia, told the press that Omar Hassan al-Bashir recognised the results of the referendum and promised to work together with South Sudan as a separate independent state.Mr. Amum mentioned that the IGAD countries which include Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and Sudan also accepted the results and welcomed South Sudan as a new IGAD member.
He added that AU assembly passed a resolution welcoming the referendum as a credible and peaceful.
Mr. Amum said that AU called upon its member states to welcome, recognise and accept the referendum results and South Sudan independence.
AU called upon South Sudan government to start formalising its process to join AU.
Mr. Amum said the European Union is meeting to formalise the process that accepts south Sudan as a new state.
