Lakes State governor is calling on the people of South Sudan to focus on ways to build their new nation, encouraging a spirit of service and patriotism.
Chol Tong Mayay made the appeal during a press conference in Rumbek on Monday, Good News Radio reported.Eng. Tong said that with the referendum results pointing clearly towards independence, the people of South Sudan need to get involved in activities that can bring about development.
He urged South Sudan citizens to embrace with patience a life of service, focusing on what they can contribute to the government rather than what the government should do for them.
Eng. Tong said corruption is one of the evils the new nation will have to face.
He added that fighting misuse of public funds and favouritism and nepotism in recruitment to different services is a process that takes time.
The final referendum results are expected to be announced by the commission in Khartoum on Monday.
