Authorities in Torit Eastern Equatoria state are calling on health partners to scale up efforts in educating citizens on COVID-19 and the preventive measures.

Speaking to Radio Emmanuel on Wednesday, police spokesperson Major Justine Kleopus Takuru says people at grassroots are not aware of coronavirus.

He appeals to health partners to use simple Arabic and local languages when conducting awareness to the population.

‘More awareness needs to be done to the local population because people still look at COVID-19 as a joke and even what is said over the radio people do not value it. Am urging people to reach make awareness in simple Arabic and local languages for people to understand because in most cases the language used for awareness is English and our people at the grassroots don’t understand this so anyone who will conduct awareness should use simple Arabic or local language for our people to understand,’ the police spokes person says.

Major Kleopus calls on citizens to adhere to the preventive measures issued to slow the spread of the disease.

The police spokesperson warns those who violate the order will be arrested and face the law.
