Farmers blame community for refusing to give land for cultivation

The farmers in Torit town have accused Abalua community for refusing to give them land for cultivation.
 
Speaking to radio Emmanuel Edwina Eugenio says they were stopped from cultivating by land owners.
 
She adds no reason was given to them for the refusal and this is the first time such an incident happened in the community.
 
Edwina mentions this will force many people to go back to their villages in order to carry on with agriculture.
 
Another resident Lino Buhoth says a section of the population in Torit town depend on agriculture to sustain their families and pay school fees for their children.
 
He stresses a national have right to cultivate anywhere even if he or she does not own the land.
 
Meanwhile secretary of Abalua Community Mombasa Cyprian says his community has reserved Odikolong and Marwari areas from cultivation this year.
 
Mombasa accuses residents of land grabbing by building houses and planting trees in their gardens.
