A Commissioner of Agriculture in Yei is advising farmers to continue with land preparation and plantation of crops in order to have enough food production this year.

Dudu Emelia Kenyi predicts that there will be food insecurity in the country because few people are concentrating on agricultural activities.

She says a big number of people who will be returning from the refugee camps to the country will lead to food scarcity.

Emelia urges everybody to embark on cultivation because it is the backbone of any country like South Sudan.

The commissioner encourages the government employees who are paid little and delayed salaries to take the lead in order to sustain their livelihoods.

She believes that practicing agriculture makes everything possible and that it is only through hard work for people to overcome hunger in the country particular in Yei.

Through agriculture people can pay medication and school fees of their children rather than relying on salaries which many times delay, Emelia points out.

She appeals to NGOs to support farmers with training and distribute seeds to the conflict affected ones.
